Kent Connexions has been in production since 1993. It originally grew out of 3 projects: firstly, beginning in 1985, a continuing series of workshops and lectures in Godmersham; secondly, in 1989, the issue of a one-off "Directory of Alternatives" called "Kent Connexions", of which 300 copies were printed and sold for charity; and thirdly, in 1991 in Canterbury, the presentation of the Kent Natural Health and Environment Exhibition. These 3 projects reflected and encouraged the increasing interest of Kent people in health and personal growth.
The magazine was first published by Margaret Koolman, Sally Young, Graham Davies and Maureen Ritchie. They decided that a full magazine dedicated to Complementary Therapy was long overdue. The content and popularity of the magazine soon began to grow.
Production was continued by Graham Davies and Maureen Ritchie, who decided to expand awareness of the publication by incorporating the area of East Sussex in 1996, though it was not until April 2001 that the magazine became known as Kent & East Sussex Connexions.
Others have helped with the magazine for short periods of time, and Julie Marman, now Julie Thatcher, began helping with the production of the magazine around 1997. In 2005, Graham decided to leave the magazine due to other commitments, so Julie took over his role as Maureen's partner. Sadly, Maureen Ritchie died in November of 2005. Julie carried on alone with the publication until May 2012, when she passed on the magazine to Wayne Yorath and Rachel Yorath, directors of Lanes Printers who managed the printing of the publication for over 10 years. Kent Connexions is now part of the Lanes Group.
Over the years, the magazine has seen many changes from the small black & white pamphlet that
appeared in January 1993, although the clear and user-friendly layout has been maintained
throughout. The magazine has always had three main sections: the Directory of Complementary
Therapists and Practitioners; the Diary of events, workshops, talks, demonstrations etc; and finally
the Courses & Classes and Open Ongoing Groups.
In addition to these main sections, there are box advertisements for various services and products all relating to health and well-being, informative articles, letters to the editor, and therapies in brief for a description of new therapies, and old ones, when they are introduced into the Directory of Therapists.
